to make socks behave. I have been seduced by the Jaywalker sock pattern and I have been unfaithful to the In the Shadow of Love sock all weekend. My affair with the Jaywalker began so innocently. I thought I'd just cast on the new yarn in my life but that led to the ribbing. We all know how a girl loves ribbing. It is such a pleasure. From there I couldn't control myself. The leg went so quickly. I found my knitting speed had increased. I was going so fast, I was out of breathe. The heel begged to be knit. It was easy. The heel was turned before I knew I'd even begun it. The gusset stitches loomed ahead. Just the gusset stitches I said, just the gusset stitches. The next thing I knew I was knitting the decreases but the In the Shadow of the Love sock was waiting. It was biding it's time. It knew I would have a moment of distraction.
of making you talk
And I did. I blame Celebrity Fit Club. I had to look at the TV at a most inopportune moment. (Am I the only fool who is sucked into this stuff?) At that exact moment the In the Shadow of Love sock struck and I knit the wrong row on the Jaywalker sock. I had been cursed. When I discovered my error I naively tinked back and dropped a freaking stitch near the corner. See it on the needle there. I have to get a tiny crochet hook to pick it back up the 4 or so rows it ran. Isn't the sock lovely. Doesn't the pattern show the yarn at it's best. (The sock is much larger than it appears in the photo. I took the photo at an angle and from above and to the side.)
Forgive me In the Shadow of Love sock. You are so, so special. You have a beautiful lacey cuff that is so dainty and delicate and hugs my leg just so. Your illusion knitting is so clever. You have that eye of partridge heel that always turns my head. And your gray and blue make me swoon. The little stripe of blue near the toe is so sexy. You are special, really you are. I have learned my lesson. Really I have. That Jaywalker is a lawbreaker singing it's siren song and luring innocent knitters to do it's bidding. Really just a few minutes in the knitting bag and I'll be right with you. Really I mean it. Just the foot and you'll be the only socks I'll wear. Forever.
Psst, Jaywalker meet me by the TV tonight at 8. Tell Shadow I'm just fixing that dropped stitch.
You are too funny! And clearly, you haven't learned your lesson. ;)
A few days ago I would have laughed at you about the Celebrity Fit Club
bit, but my daughter was home sick one day last week and was watching it
while I was knitting (trying to ingnore the show...) All it takes is once,
and you're hooked! Your socks are lovely, by the way. Totally worth the
recriminations from the Shadow of Love! And what is up with that guy from
Taxi, anyway? Benedryl...please!
