You know how I talk about how small my life is and how I am so not one of the cool kids. Well I've been trying to expand my life a little and live. I want to do some fun things, things I never did when I was younger. Things that are just a little crazy. About 2 months ago I decided to spend a sizable chunk of the yarn budget on tickets to see Eddie Izzard. I haven't said a word because the anticipation was killing me. The husband and I have been fans for ages following both his comedy and acting career. Yesterday was the BIG day. We dropped N at my mother's for a big sleepover and headed into Boston. We grabbed a quick dinner and wandered around until it was time to head to the theater. I bought a program and the husband grabbed a beer and we settled into our seats. Once the show started it was nonstop laughter. Eddie said he was going to talk about everything and he sure did. Seeing him live was amazing. He is so in the moment and very quick. A couple of unplanned things occurred and he turned them into funny little bits. The show and he were brilliant.
We hung around after the show in cold with the other die hard fans in the hope of getting photos and an autograph. Just when some were ready to give up they were kind enough to invite us into the lobby of the theater so this could be done out of the wind. Eddie was so kind taking a few minutes with each person, signing an autograph, taking a photo or answering a question. It was a wonderful time and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Remember the gift socks and how I said I would tell you how they went over at the end of the month. Being an ardent lover of handknit socks I feel it is my responsibilty to share this love with the world. I know other sock knitters feel the same way. We want the muggles to get it. I would say at best my gift of handknit socks were received reluctantly. Well at least I tried.
I had NO IDEA that's where the gift socks were headed!! OMG!
How cool!!!! Love the photos!
Doesn't matter how they were received. They were received. And that is
the coolest thing EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW!!!! You know what would be really amazing -- if Eddie at some point
incorporates the story of your giving him the socks into one of his shows.
That would be such a riot, and I bet he'd do it if he only knew how many of
us knitters out there like to get out and represent, and how many of us are
fans. I sincerely hope you share this story with the Eddie Izzard group on
Ravelry.
Oh.my.god. you gave Eddie Izzard handknit socks! I bet he totally wore
them!
I'm glad you had a great time. I bet he loves the socks after he tries them
on. I thought hand knit socks were strange before I made them too.
SO he took the socks!I want to knit him something too for when I see him in
Dallas.I bet he will love the socks when he puts them on.I will ask him
about it.
Wow-- that is the coolest! What exactly did he say about them?
Going to see him in NY.....cant wait!
Awesome pics of you and Eddie! I'm glad you guys had a good time.
What a fun adventure! Can't wait to hear more about the sock exchange.
Love the pictures too! Way to go taking the night out for yourselves!
